I’m probably a little too late for grabbing that post title, in fact it’s more than likely that a highly proficient blogger used it during the Steve Jobs keynote at MacWorld 2008. It’s not quite the iPhone (which I still don’t own thanks to the lure of a forthcoming, fully-fledged 3G version), lot’s of other, potentially more noteworthy things have also happened since the announcement a couple of days ago (e.g. Sun acquiring MySQL for £500m!), but the Macbook Air is still an interesting product.
I just received a newsletter from the Apple UK Store regarding pre-orders;
It’s looks stunning (as all Apple products generally do, excluding the iPod Hi-Fi which presents the connected iPod as an easy target for any absolutely any kind of accident you could possibly imagine). And, being a person who spends far too much time at their MacBook Pro, I’m interested to know if this slim new design will bring any ergnomic benefits.
My MacBook Pro, being the seven month old, completely out-dated, Tiger-powered, hunk of dumbbell material that it is, gives me a nice wedge of air (pun-intended) between the desk and chassis palm rest area;

But the same goes for many other laptops, which, thanks to way they angle your wrist, leads many companies to spend thousands, if not millions of pounds on wrist wrests/mousepads/safety manuals, making sure employees won’t end up with RSI. Could thinner laptops, like the MacBook Air, help reduce this? I haven’t been anywhere near a super-lightweight laptop before; do they make it more comfortable to spend all day typing?
p.s. it’s probably a placebo effect, but writing this post really made me notice the pain I’m inflicting on my wrists! And I’m joking about my MacBook Pro - I love it to bits, it’s an awesome productivity tool and I’m lucky to own one!

The Air notebook to me doesn’t seem to be worth the money.
I like the idea that it’s thinner than a really thin person being really thin but unless it had an Ethernet port, a CD/DVD drive and a replaceable battery, I wouldn’t be able to justify spending my hard earned on it.
Matt, love the Gravatar!
After several trips with an out-of-juice MacBook Pro battery on trains without plug sockets, I’ve been considering gettng hold of a backup battery for the carry case. I know several other people who do the same thing for their laptops, so I can see this being a little bit of a stinker for the MB Air.
